The College : An outline

Established in 1993 as Silapathar Women's College with untiring and enduring efforts of a many visionary of Silapathar to emphasize on women's education and empowerment, the college has been able to make a mark of its own during its march towards quality and meaningful education in Silapathar area. But due to consistent demand from public the college transformed itself to a co-education institution with Govt. permission and official gazette. The college has been able to make a niche of its own in Silapathar area throughout its march towards academic excellence and meaningful education to make “human of a man”. It is located at east from Silapathar Town near Electricity Board and at hardly 1 Km. distance from heart of Silapathar Town. The college is equipped with national standard sports training complex, multi-gymnasium and girl's hostel. ...The college will be furnished with virtual class room, digital library and many more facilities funded by state government as well as UGC. Geared by energetic and dynamic faculties of the college the college has been able to maintain a consistent record of academic result which is the proof rigorous hard work of the college fraternity.
The college provides post Graduation programme in English, Assamese, Political Science, Economics, Sociology & Mathematics & Education under Directorate of open & Distance Learning Dibrugarh University. The college provides vocational and self employment programme with technical experts from Govt. and non-Govt. agencies.



Book Bank

There is provision of Book Bank in the college for the benefit of the poor & needy students in the college. It is under the purview of the college library.

We cater students to every nine departments in our institution every year and strive to perceive and maintain quality education. The institution has perfect teaching- learning environment focusing on indiviualised instruction, conceptual thinking and problem solving leading to academic excellence.
Infrastructure facilities have been continuously upgraded, in step, to make for a more meaningful interface of knowledge and technology in the years to come. Silapathar Town College has continuously endeavoured to negotiate the path of vertical and horizontal expansion in its core area of dissemination of knowledge and the crystallization of student’s activity. It is now successfully grappling with the changes consequent upon the new found dynamism of an increasingly digitized and knowledge based society. Today change is the hallmark of any progressive society more so in transitional societies that have to make for lost time.
It is my firm belief that Silapathar Town College will continue to evolve as an example of all progressive activities in this Silapathar region increasing the important on knowledge creation and dissemination.

Mission of the College

The college is moving ahead with a mission to generate more and more quality education which will create more and more option for students to join and equip in putting up a meaningful quality education and life which will be an added colures to both individual and society.

Vision of the College

In its effort to move ahead the college has always tried to prove its academic excellence, social commitment and maintain cultural interest with a clear vision to “disseminate knowledge” reasonably and meaningfully.

Disciplinary Action

Violation of rules, unsatisfactory progress, irregular attendance, irregular clearance of college and hostel fees, unruly conduct, adoption of unfair means during examinations etc. Are some of the offence which may make students liable for disciplinary actions like termination of scholarship, forced transfer from college, temporary suspension, fine and event expulsion from college.

Guideline for Students

1. Familiarise yourself with the college rules as notified from time to time.

2. Requires regular attendance of class.

3. Look up the notice board regally.

4. Maintain discipline in and outside the college campus.

5. Keep your college clean.

6. Do not use mobile phones inside the classrooms.

7. Don’t spit on walls and in classrooms. Do ot write or stick anything on walls, desks benches.

Intake capacity of the College

BA 1st Semester is 450

Students are admitted on merit basis and admission is subject to Dibrugarh University regulations. There is a provision of reservation as per Central/State Government Rules

Rules of Admission

  • For admission to BA 1st Semester class, a student must have passed higher Secondary or equivalent examination from a recognized board or council.
  • Admission is purely on merit basis. However students with good sports background will also be considered bases on their credentials.
  • Application for admission is to be submitted through online.

Reservation

There is a provision for reservation of seats as per Govt. of Assam rules (OBC/ MOBC - 15%, SC - 7%, ST(P) 10% & ST(H) 5%) 2% for Sports Persons of sports recognized by IOA/SAI and also have represented District/State etc., 1% for wards of employees of the Colleges, 1% for NCC/Scouts/Guides, 1% for the Students with achievements in cultural activities. 5 Nos of seats for Tea tribe Community, 5 Nos of seats for differently abled candidates belonging to the state of Assam and in this respect Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority under Govt. of Assam only shall be valid.

Career Guidance Cell

The College has opened a Career Guidance Cell for the student to -

  • Give them information about and guidance for higher studies.
  • Provide the students with information on areas of employment, required qualification and other qualities.
  • To expose them to entrepreneurship.

National Service Scheme (NSS)

The college has NSS wing under Dibrugarh University which renders benevolent services to society for the upliftment and inculcates spirit of fellow- feeling.It’s motto “NOT ME BUT YOU”. Co-ordinator: Darika Pegu, Asstt. Prof.

Games & Sports: Outdoor and Indoor games and sports facilities are available for the students. Outstanding performances are sponsored by the college for Inter College and University Sports Competition.

College Magazine

The College magazine is brought out annually to encourage original writing and literary activities among students. The Magazine is edited by the student editors elected annually by the students. The editors (Assamese and English Section) work under the guidance of Professor-in-charge

  • Reservation of seats for students belonging to SC, ST (Hills), ST (Plains), OBC, MOBC, TGL and Differently Abled students are followed as per Government rules.

College Library

Silapathar Town College library is rapidly increasing collection of books, periodical and journals. The library has the INFLIBNET connectivity to access other libraries. The college library has well-furnished reading rooms for both students and teaching staffs separately. Presently the college has more than 15000 books which is increasing rapidly. Photostat and internet facility is available in the library. The college has a well equipped library with sufficient text books and reference, newspapers, periodical journals of national and international with a specious reading rooms and net facilities. It also has other books for competitive exams, job orientation journals, books etc.

Hostels

Silapathar Town College has one Girls’ hostel with a intake capacity of 75 boarders. Seat are allotted at the time of admission on the basis of merit.

Computer Lab

Keeping in consonance with the present digital world, college has installed digital classrooms to partially replace traditional classroom teaching for benefits of the students.
Silapathar Town College has well equipped computer centre with 30 desktop computers where students can access whenever they wish.

Of Our College

Students Union

Silapathar Town College Student Union is the General Body of the students of the college. Its membership is compulsory for every students of the college. Office bearers of the Union are elected annually. The elected candidates are hierarchically assigned as permanent Vice-President, General Secretary, Assistant General Secretary, Games & Sports Secretary (Major), Games & Sports Secretary (Minor), Cultural Secretary, Magazine Secretary, Debating Secretary, Girls’ Common Room Secretary & Social Service Secretary as per their contest and majority votes in support of respective candidates. The tenure of the student Union is one Academic Session only for which they have contested.

General Rules

Attendance ester Examinations, held by the Dibrugarh University. This rule is strictly applicable to all the subjects, irrespective of Compulsory, Honours or Core subjects.

College Uniform

Students must wear the college uniform in the college i.e. white kamij, white salwar with orange dopatta. During winter they may wear navy blue cardigan or blazer. They must put on the college identity cards.

Identity Cards

The students must put on the identity card in the College campus. If the Identity Card is lost it may be repurchased on cash payment of Rs. 100/-.

The college constitute Anti-raging committee so as to effectively implement the all preventive measures and eliminate the scourge of raging. The Anti-raging committee is reconstitute with the followings in June, 2015 for the period of 3 (three) years.

Women’s forum

Silapathar Town College has Women’s Association among women teacher for interaction with the girls students and address their different academic and non-academic affairs. Accordingly the forum takes remedial measures for the grievances of the girl students.

Health Care Centre

Health Care Centre has established to promote physical, mental & social wellbeing of the students, teachers and non- teaching staff. A part time physical instructor is appointed for physical exercise and physician of local Public Health Centre is contacted whenever call for. The college has first aid medicine for primary treatment.
